I grew up watching my mom cook up a storm, and though she always made sure we had a delicious and nutritious dinner, she never neglected to have something gooey and chocolatey around to satisfy her children's collective sweet tooth, too. When I finally left home and starting cooking for myself, I decided I kind of liked it. But as much as I enjoyed frying an omelet or baking a chicken breast, it didn't compare to the fun I could have mixing, baking, and, at last, devouring 234 square inches of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting...mmmm.
At some point I started watching "Amazing Wedding Cakes", "Ace of Cakes", "Food Network Cake Challenge" - you name it, if it involved cake, I was glued to the television. And one day it finally struck me that I wanted to create cakes like that. And better yet, I could create cakes like that. So I signed up for some decorating classes and I haven't turned back since.
